One Flower

Even with the 3 days of dog show I was able to get one flower done! Yeah

One Flower

Last week and this week are a bit hectic, so its been hard to get any stitching done. But I was able to get the last few hex on this one today.  I like orange.

It is a little odd looking because laying in the daylilly bed I couldn't get it flat, but I liked the contract between the bright orange and white and the dark green leaves.  Its not really as oddly shaped as it looks!

With 3 days of dog shows this weekend and miles and miles of driving I don't know if I will get a whole flower done, but I will try.  If you see me stitching at the dog show,  come over and chat with me while I do.

  This is the planned layout.  It is going to take me forever to sew as it took me almost all week just to get the white around one flower block this week.  But no hurry! 

One Flower Wednesday

My flowers for today.  One full flower and one partial.  My layout will have a partial on each row either top or bottom, so if I wind up going with the plan I am anticipating, I will need 6 partials.

 

Quilting any Corgi bloggers who quilt?

First - update for last nights quilting.  I think I finished 3 more blocks-I was really tired yesterday and I honestly was on autopilot all day.

Janet had a good thought in my comments. Would any of the bloggers out there be interested in creating a one of a kind quilt for some fundraising event, maybe cardigan rescue? Or cardi and pem quilters  and do a quilt for corgi aid?

Lazy trainer, busy crafter, garden plans

OK, so it was a beautiful weekend, and other than one short walk with the dogs, I basically did nothing dog related.  The dogs spent the weekend working on venison leg bones and trying to break into them enough to get to the marrow. Diligent hard working dogs that I have, they were very successfull, and my livingroom floor is littered with split leg bones.

I on the other hand, spent large chunks of the weekend sewing.  I have a 9 month mystery quilt project that we are on month 6 in receiving the instructions.  I, on the other hand had not completed month one, prior to the weekend.  I am now almost done with month 3, have about half of month 4 done, and a bit of month 5.  The nice thing about being behind, you can combine some work on the cutting and piecing to what makes sense, rather than smaller portions at a time.  The bad part is that I have 27 blocks to complete. But my goal is to get them done this week. As of last night I had 3 blocks totally completed from month 4 I think.

I think with spring around the corner, more daylight and actual sun instead of clouds, spring is on the way.  I am getting some tomato seeds from a fellow blogger, Danni at On the Way to Critter Farm.   That, and a walk past the garden, has me thinking about garden planning, although here in Minnesota it will be a bit longer before I can get too much going.  But, I do plan this week to test the bean seeds I kept from last years garden, so see if they sprout for me.  I have always bought seeds so this was a first.  I will limit my beans this year though- they sort of took over the garden last year, and we wasted wquite a bit as we didnt get them all picked timely.  I dont have a pressure canner and have not had much luck with frozen green beans so we only ate them fresh. Well, except for the few I pickled.

The quilt

As you can see there are a few parts still in process, but I needed to get a feel for what colors to make the little stars, so we laid it all out. Rows 1,2 and 3 are all together, except for the sashing rows. This one is bright, but I like it so far. It was made from a monthly sample class, where the quilt store picked out the fabrics for the individual blocks. I, however decided ont he layout and the yellow sashing and small stars. We spent quite a bit of time on the layout, and I just now noticed the 2 nine patch center blocks next to each other on the bottom. I think I will need to move that<>

Quilting and Dogs

For this first time in a long time I actually did some quilting. I worked on a small wall hanging, but now need to run out and get some batting and maybe a pretty backing fabric to finish it. Then I worked on a quilt that I had started a while back. As usual, I can never do anything simply, so of course the sashing for this quilt is harder and more complex than the individual blocks. I have only 3 large blocks left to sew, and about half the cornerstone blocks to do.

It seems I am the same with quilting as I am with the dogs. I have a hard time waiting until all the individual pieces are done before I start putting it together. I have a need to see something substantial for the work I have put in. So although all the parts are not done, I have started putting some pieces together. It's my need to see progress and my own personal reward I think.

Its the same with the dogs. I often enter events with my dogs, really before I am done with the training. I need to see that we are making progress. Its not that I need another persons judgement, it's that I need to feel that we are moving toward a goal, and those Q's or even NQ's give me a real feel for where we are. I don't think that I could ever be a person who has a dog trained through utility before entering novice. I wish I could be that person, but so far have not mastered that. So you will probably continue to see me at shows with half trained dogs. But I guess that is OK as long as that is what makes me happy. Right?

On the dog training side, this weekend David worked with Siren and I worked a bit with Peace. Grace is in season, and the boys are driving her crazy. Me too really, Kazin leave her alone, Magic get off Grace. At one point yesterday, Grace shut herself in the living room crate. I think she was fed up.
