Peaceful Thinking

Peace and I are taking a tracking class.  She really seems to enjoy the practices we are doing.  I tease about Peace a lot, saying she is a noodle and a goober, which she is, but she is also a really good dog.  She is so excited by the tracking and so happy to be out doing stuff.  It kind of makes me feel bad for not working with her before, but with 4 dogs in the house, we do have to sort of alternate as the finances just arent there for everyone to pay all the time.

Peace is the most cuddly cardigan I have. She prefers to be on your lap or right next to you at all times.  Belly rubs are the best and she will not let you forget to give them. Sometimes I think I should place her with a family who would be able to devote their whole lives to her, but then I just can't let her go. Who would warm me up at night?  I do adore this dog!

Peace-now a Grand!

Today Peace earned her AKC Grand Champion title!  I am so proud of my little girl.

So many firsts with her-my first time in bred by, my first bred by champion and now grand champion. She won her first BOB from the classes, and although she hasn't many of them she has some.  This year although we haven't shown many times, she was in the ribbons every time.

In UKC she gave me many group placings and a Best in Show. She was the number 3 dog in the UKC top ten last year, and this year at the UKC Premier top ten invitational she won best of breed. She has also earned several UKC total dog awards including one at Premier. The total dog award is given to dogs who win their conformation class and earn a qualifying score in a performance event at the same show. She has earned all her total dog awards for qualifying in weight pull, which is her first performance title.

Although neither of us are perfect, I couldnt be happier with my little noodle. Now we will start to work on some more titles for the end of her name, although even if she never does anything else, she is the best snuggler I have. Love my noodle girl.

UKC Premier

I had a wonderful time this last week.  I could write a novel about it all but I doubt you want to read all that, so I will just give the basics.

Grace and I ran UKC agility together for the first time.  She did wonderfully.  For thiose unfamiliar, UKC agility is scored similarly to obedience where you start with a 200 and are marked points off for any issues that may occur such as off courses, or not entering or exiting an obstacle straight.  Grace and I ran 5 times over the 4 days, earning qualifying runs all 5 times. We earned the following scores 200,195,184,200,193.  A couple of issues we had that got points taken off were overshooting the table and falling off, then re-entering on the wrong side, bouncing off the side of the teeter instead of exiting straight off,  and once she got caught in the chute so she backed out then barrelled through it.  It was quite funny because you could tell she was mad that she got stuck, and in typical Grace fashion after she was out of the chute she turned back to bark at it for slowing her down.
.
On Friday Grace also ran one run of Level 1 rally where she also qualified.  I had entered this because I was really hoping that Grace could maybe earn a total dog award, and when I sent my entries, I was not confident in our ability to run in agility.  To do that a dog has to qualify in a performance event and do well in the conformation ring. Since I couldn't handle both Grace and Peace, Grace got to play with a new friend Mike who she showed her beautifully.  So Grace got to be in the total dog parade of qualifiers and compete for the best total dog award.

Peace also did wonderfully this weekend.  She placed 2nd in weight pull on Friday for her performance event so also was able to do the total dog parade and conformation contest. She did not ultimately place, but she did make the cut in the herding group for that.  The steward told me afterward that the judge commented that he really had liked her. Peace also won BOB at the Top Ten invitational Thursday (I cried) as well as earning 2 wins towards a grand and BOB on both Friday and Saturday.  Sunday she did not win, but that did not dim our excitement at all.  3 BOB's over a 4 day weekend was incredible.

There were so many people there from MN, WI and IA that it seemed like I was constantly running into people. Everyone seemed to have a great time. I met some new people, made some new dog friends and want to do it again. Soon. I know Grace does, she wants to play with Ryan Newman (Dwysans Hot Wheels) again. I have never seen her flirt with another cardi in quite the same way. She was smitten!  Anyone else already thinking about Gateway?

Home from Des Moines

Well I made it home from Des Moines, but it sure wasnt a fun drive.  6.5 hours for what is a 3.5-4 hour drive normally. But not the worst ever, that was a few years ago coming back from Des Moines.  I like the Des Moines shows, but dang they almost always bring bad weather. Then again this year we are just having way too much bad weather.

In any event the weeknd was pretty good, despite my being sick.  I was feeling a little better on Friday, but then by Saturday afternoon, I crashed again, this time with a fever-But a long borning afternoon and night in the hotel room, watching TV and napping and today I felt tolerable.  I really hope no one I was with gets sick now.  Sadly I didnt get to go to the Chili party at Mummes, but I figured they all did not need to be infected.  I was hoping to squeeze puppies though.

As far as the show goes, that was very good.  Lani from http://wagsnwoofs.blogspot.com/ came over to Des Moines to play with us on Saturday.  She a a darling young pup that she will be showing soon, but had never done the conformation thing, so I offered to let her play with Grace. That way she could go and get a feel for the whole show thing without having to worry about the dog part of the team.  Those of you that know Grace, you know how easily she can be bought, so a few peices of prime rib and they were a team.  They did great-Grace and Lani got BOS!  Graces first grand champion points.

Peace had an OK weekend too, taking select (they were the only girl specials) and today she was the only girl special, so today she took BOS to Sully.    All in all a good weekend.

UKC in IL

Friday and Saturday we took a little trip to IL to play at some UKC conformation.  In order to earn a UKC Grand Champion, you need to win the Champions class 5 times with at least 3 champions in the class.  We so rarely have any cardis other than mine entered here in MN so when I found out that there was going to be other Cardis entered in IL we decided at the last minute to make the trip.  Since Teresa was only going to be there Saturday, we only entered that day as well.  Peace was reserve in the first show and BOB in the second earning her first win toward her Gr. Hopefully, Teresa and I will be able to work together and get to some shows so we can both continue toward that.
I am trying to convince Teresa to come over here next summer and give weight pulling a try too. I think she just might, she already has a harness, might as well use it!

Sadly, the pre-entry numbers are out for Gateway and Peace is the only Cardi.  I was so hoping that we would get to play with others there that weekend.  I really like showing, but its so much more fun when you get to play WITH others. Win or lose, its just more fun. Come on Cardi people, come play UKC. We play nice, promise!!

Pictures from the weekend

Vegas was a little nervous about the whole picture taking thing, but I still think he is lovely even with one foot forward!

Peace was practically dragging me around the group ring> Not a great picture but the best David could get from ringside.

Peace learns a new trick, or How to kill Mom

Last fall we put up a 3 foot fence to try to keep the corgis out of part of the yard once spring came to try to save some portion of the remaining grass.  Well, over the winter Peace  learned to leap the 3 foot fence. (Note to self, dont even bother next fall)  In the process of all of this, she had managed to bend the top down a bit so it flops over and makes it shorter, but a bit wider.this made access for all 5 dogs.  No problem for the athletic corgis, jumping in, but for some reason sometimes Peace pretends like she can't jump out. Might have something to do with not wanting to, because I have seen her go both ways many times.  The new trick is she comes to the side of the fence and jumps into your arms to lift her over.

Well that was the trick until last night.  Last night Peaceful decided to leap over the fence with a running start into waiting Moms chest, knocking her right off her feet. Imagine landing smack on your butt with 30+ pounds of dog careening into you. Knocked the breath out of me, knocked my head on the ground, then she proceeded to do a happy dance on my chest while licking my face.  I bet the neighbors loved that one. Oh I hurt today!

Question for the seasoned breeders

Those of you with multiple intact girls, do you have difficulties with them?  I have 3 intact girls. so far I have not had any issues with top dog status or anything like that.  This is the first time that the girls all coming into season at the same time.  Peace started last week, Siren started yesterday and Grace looks like she could be coming in as well, although she hasn't started yet.  What has been your experience. The young girls will be 2 in May and Grace is 4. Any thoughts?

Another note I found interesting.  Grace has always been really clean with her cycles. You rarely if ever see any sign of blood with her.  Peace is a very girly girl  too, she keeps herself pretty clean also. Siren though, wow-her crate pad yesterday looked like she had been injured, blood smeared everywhere and little droplets across the floor.   Sure am glad I picked up the little panty at the show a couple of weeks ago! Although I have to admit Rinnie is none to pleased with it.
