sick and sock(s)

Not much to post about, I have been horribly sick.  I just can't breathe, so although I did take Magic to flyball on Tuesday, I am not taking Grace to agility tonight as I cannot run. Heck I can barely walk. But on the positive side, when I haven't been crashed sleeping, I have been knitting.  I finished my second sock of the first pair, and my first sock of another pair.  Both of these pairs are just shorty socks with a thicker worsted weight yarn, so there is not as much knitting to them, but, it is still an accomplishment as I finally got past my ignorance and worked out how to do it.  Next up will be a pair of socks with a finer more sock like yarn. maybe this weekend. I bought some lovely sock yarn that is a natural creamy wool color.  I was planning on dying it myself, but I just love the soft color, so maybe I will be brave and try to knit a patterned cuff.

Although all I want to do is sleep.

Knitting

Its been a week since I blogged. I have been knitting. Work and knitting with a few training breaks for Magic.  My son David picked out yarn, needles and a pattern and gave it to me for Christmas.  So when the knitting olympics came up I decided to jump in.  I never thought I would be able to do a whole vest for myself in 17 days, and I may not, but I am pleased with how much I have done.   I just hope it fits!

Knitting Olympics

I signed myself up for the Knitting Olympics, over at the Yarn Horlots blog. Although I do not expect to truly finish my project, between the opening and closing ceremonies, it's fun to give it a try. There are about 3000 knitters taking on the challenge.  David gave me yarn for Christmas and I am knitting myself a vest. The Leftovers pattern by Alison  Hansel.  I knit about an inch worth of the ribbing tonight and then frogged it. Too much watching, not enough counting) So starting again. But thats OK! Just like dog sports, this is a fun challenge.

Meanwhile this is what the rest of the family is doing.

Sock Update

So here are the socks, or at least the work toward the socks. This is sock 1 and sock 3 though. Number 2 met with a sad death at about 2 inches. Oh well. These have been fun so far, I was at a yarn shoppe this last weekend and they had the prettiest purple bamboo sock yarn. I am thinking maybe someday purple agility socks.

Seeking A Sock Pattern

I am a beginning knitter, but my goal for 2009 was to knit socks. If anyone can recommend the easiest sock pattern I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Knitting and Dog Hair

So I finally got back to doing some knitting today while sitting in the waiting room. I have to say I am really enjoying knitting with the bamboo yarn I picked up. It is light and soft and silky and it seems to knit up nicely. A lady at the store (customer) tried to warn me off the yarn saying it was hard to work with, but I really like it. But I did run into a problem tonight. The yarn is a lovely pale cream color. Any dog hair that gets into it shows tremendeously. I have 5 dogs, how am I going to keep it hair free??

My first sweater

I have a new grandbaby due anytime now. I decided to try my hand at a baby sweater. We don't know the sex yet, but my son is a huge vikings fan, so we decided to go with sort of vikings colors. In reality the sweater is a bit duller than the picture shows. Even if its a girl, she can be a foot ball fan, besides it will only fit a short time because its pretty small. I couldn't figure out how to knit the button band, at least not correctly, so I crocheted it. Its not perfect, but for my first sweater I am pretty happy with it. Being self taught, I know that there are a lot of things I need to learn to do better, but at least I tried. Now the sweater is done, baby COME!

Knitting

Well, I had decided a while back that I was going to learn to knit. So I have been practicing. I have now finished my first piece. A super easy hat. My son picked the yarn, and I picked the easiest hat pattern I could find. He is not so thrilled with the rolled edge, so I am going to try making him a different one. But for now he is wearing his new hat in the snowy windy Minnesota weather.
