Off to MO

Tonight we are leaving for MO for the UKC show.  I am really excited, yet somewhat dissapointed.  I had hoped for some cardigan competition, but we will go and have fun anyways.  Magic my little do everything guy will be my main partner.  We are going to play at just about everything.  Its there, so why not, right?
He is already entered for 2 weight pulls, 4 agility runs, 3 lure coursing runs and I am thinking about throwing in some rally.  They also have dock diving, but I am not sure if he will do that after our one rather sad attempt when he sort of sank.  I wonder if he could try it with a life jacket? He is such a great dog and although things with his breeder are strained at best, I will always be greatful for Magic. For a first cardigan, he is the best.

Peace and I will play in the conformation ring, but she is also pulling on Friday.  I really need to get her trained for other events, but I am thinking maybe I will let her watch lure coursing, and if she seems interested at all, maybe she can give it a try as well.

I wish all of you going to Sioux Falls a wonderful and successful time.  I really hope all of you win, but since I know that cant happen, I will hope you all have a really good time.  Although I was really torn about whether to do MO or SF, I am really glad we are going to go play. I like conformation, but performance stuff is where my heart really is.

UKC Top Ten

OK, this really is not a huge brag or anything. I just thought it was kind of funny how so many dogs were tied for 9th place! The funny part is the numbers behind the owner name are the number of breed points!  As you can see there are not many cardis in UKC!  However, Peace is the only one with a performance title.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi

02. GRCH'PR'Benever's No Turning Back Carol Kasabian 11

Note- I had entered Grace and Peace in conformation at the events with weight pulls as we were trying for them both to receive a total dog award. but Grace has yet to beat Peace, so only Peace earned a total dog award. . And now they are both primarily done with weight pulling so other than if we go to a show where there may be other cardigans working toward a grand they are both done in conformation.  If anyone is going to Gateway please let me know. We would love to try for her Grand.

Herding Pictures - Peace

Peace was uncertain. Interested, but not to sure about actually engaging with those things.  This was about as close as she got to them, and it was very brief.   On the positive side, she wasnt really afraid, just not too sure, so there is hope for the next time.

3 girls in season

All three of my girls are in season.  Peace is nearing the end, Siren is in the middle and Grace is just starting.  My 2 neutered boys are both becoming humping champions.  Its making me crazy. The funny thing is that my yard must positively reek of GIRL!  We had 2 loose male dogs appear just outside our yard yesterday alone. I know where the one lives- a very pretty Akita who walks by regularly.(A really nice dog)  He got away from his Dad during thier evening walk last night and hightailed it right to our house, dragging his leash.  His owner laughed when I told him why he was suddenly making 53 pee stops along our short little fence. The other male - not sure where he came from, or where he went.  He was hanging around when I went to bed, but gone this morning.  I tried to catch him, as I hate to see loose dogs in the city, but he wasnt having anything to do with me.

Fortunately we never have our dogs outside unsupervised. Even in the cold, we are always right there, so I dont feel like I have to worry about any unplanned pregnacies-even though both the brindle girls are really being hussies these days.

Home from the show

It was a fun day today at the show.  I am a member of the herding group club, so I entered today to support the club. Spent the first part of the morning stewarding, which I really enjoy.  I was stwerading today for Bev Capstick, who is one of the founding members of the club.  It was also a good day for several of my friends and I really enjoyed watching them show.  I will et them all post their own brags.  Peace was best of opposite today, and earned herself a pretty rosette and a new chair.  I really have no intention of showing Peace as a special, but it was fun for the day, and maybe we will do it again later this year.

Its Official - Picture added

Ch. Daybreake's Peaceful Dreams!

I just checked the AKC site and it's there.  Woohoo!  And her show picture came too, I can't wait to get it scanned in. (added) Peace is only my second show dog and the first one I bred, so it is exciting for me.  She may not be the best cardigan out there, but she is one of my favorites. (She is such a goober-girl it would be hard not to love her.)

After the holidays are over and my mad christmas gift finishing rush is over I need to do her scrapbook.

Peace and the football game

Today we got home from the dog show in plenty of time to watch the football game.  Apparently Peace was tired from her 2 days at the show, she hopped up on my lap, streched out down my legs and took a 2 hour nap.  And if I so much as commented on the game she would lift up her head and give me the stink eye.  What a DIVA she has become.

Today at the show there were only 3 entered, so to try to keep the one possible point, I left her in the classes.  I tried to show her badly, I let her sniff and romp on the lead, but she still took winners. Thankfully, the judge gave the one lone boy BOB so he got the cross over point.  I would have felt really bad if Diana and Mac hadn't gotten at least one point for the day.  And we got to come home early which I was rather glad for since my sinuses are rather unhappy. I can't wait for my appointment tomoorow. Hopefully once the tooth is gone the penicillan can work on the infection.  If I don't post tomorrow, I am probably asleep.

We did it.

Pending AKC approval of course, Peace is now an AKC Champion too.  It was a small cardigan entry today, but she was WB, BOW, BOB.  (Nothing in group, but thats OK) My tooth is worse and the infection has now spread to my sinuses. Yuck. Can't wait for Monday to get this tooth ripped out, because last night I thought about a hammer and chisel...

Todays show

First let me say sorry, I didn't post all the winners from yesterday- BOB was Emily and Picasso, and BOS was Barb and Molly. Emily also picked up a group 4 yesterday.

Today at the RMKC show BOB- Emily and Picasso, WD - Mike and Norman, WB, BOW & BOS was Peace for another point. One more to go.

The Wright County Kennel Club show in Hutchinson is coming up, closes this week. Personally I would love to see us come up with a nice large entry since on Sunday we will have a breeder judge, Leah James. So anyone looking to travel a little, Minnesota in the fall is beautiful- come visit.

A good show day

We had a good day today at the Rochester Kennel Club show. Peace earned 1 point for going Winners. She also was best Bred By. Music earned 2 points with Winners and Best of Winners. That makes 8 for Music and 13 for Peace.

Show Pics

The pictures from a couple of weeks ago finally came. These didnt turn out too badly, for a change. I usually look really bad, but these, not horrible. Peace looks pretty good, although her front legs are a little forward, I have seen and done worse!

They came so its official!

Ch Daybreakes Peaceful Dreams! FO UWP UCD Qwaynts Magic Spark!
Both dogs UKC certificates came today. Peace's Championship and Magics Family Obedience and United Weight Pull certificates. I know it's probably silly but I am so proud of my dogs, and those titles to me show how hard we have worked and the fun that we have together.

I know that a lot of people look down on the UKC titles, but I am very happy to have earned these. I like UKC shows, and enjoy working with the local clubs that do them. And I also like that UKC allows dogs to earn titles in sports that are not traditionally geared toward that breed, like a corgi in the dog sport classes, or weight pulling. Heck at the last weight pull there were several non traditional pulling type dogs and I think all of them qualified, and I think all of them placed in the classes. In fact the Old English Sheepdog not only placed in the weight pull, he went on and won Best in Show in conformation.
Plus, UKC rewards it members who earn multiple titles from different events. Along with Magics titles he received 2 $25.00 gift certificates. Thanks UKC!

Weekend

A nice peaceful weekend at home. Wishes apparently feels no pain from her foot, so is really wanting to play. Peace will be getting her stitches out tomorrow, so no more cone. We had the dehydrator going all weekend, drying vegies for the winter. And some knitting. I knit a washcloth, dish scrubbie pair as a thank you gift for a friend.

Thanks for the thoughts on the whiskers. I will see how they look after her appointment tomorrow and as the rest of the scabs heal.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Whisker question

How many of you trim your cardigans whiskers? I never have, but since Peaces injury was on her muzzle, the vet shaved the one side. That was 2 weeks ago, and the shaved side has whiskers starting and they are under 1/4 inch grown. Peace is entered in her next show in about 3 weeks. I am thinking at that point they will be around 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long. Do I now leave them with that side growing, or trim both? Her scab should be gone, but the hair may still be a little shorter on that side. I think I can get away with it, though, its on the non show side, so only at the table would the judge really notice it.

Please let me know what you would do?

Peace update

Thanks everyone for the good wishes for Peaceful. Peace is doing well. She is not pleased with the cone though, and still cannot manage to move around without crashing into things, or just into the ground when she insists on sniffing while moving. But her wound so far is doing good. Unfortunately we do not know where this dog came from. We are looking around, but no luck so far. To be on the safe side, she is getting her booster shots a couple of months early, she is not due until early September, but I would rather be careful.
Last night was quite humorous for us though. Peace was in the big kennel in the living room, and apparently decided the bedding was not in order. She scratched around for a while until she got up a big enough hump that she could get ahold of it with her mouth. Next thing, she has the blanket inside the cone, covering her face, with her nose pointed to the ceiling, banging around the crate. When she finally dropped her nose down, and the blanket fell out of the cone, she promptly laid down on it, so maybe it worked just like she wanted! But it was sure funny from the outside.

Peace's Injury (not too gross, but not pretty)

Well just this morning I was emailing with a bunch of people trying to see if we could get some majors built for some shows that are coming up. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we are going to get any girl majors in the near future. But maybe some for the boys, and of course we can pray for the cross over. But not in Peace's near future.
I was just starting my lunch, getting ready to do the online entries, when I get a panicked call from my son saying Peace needed to go to the vet. It seems when they were outside today, some kids came by with a large husky-like dog. Apparently Peace stuck her nose out the fence to visit and the Husky tried to remove it. He pulled on her so hard that she has fence marks indented into her face, and he ripped open a wound through her face, into her gums and teeth. The original wound was about the size of a nickle with hanging flap of skin and a tear. Fortunately, he did not get her eyes and David was right there beating him loose. So off to the vet we go, where poor pitiful Peace got stitched up. Because bite wounds need to drain, they inserted a drain tube, but did try to repair as much of the tear as possible. She has a couple of stitches and has to wear her e-collar as they are worried about her scratching it open. She will have to have the drain removed in a few days, or as soon as it stops draining. She has antibiotics and Rimadyl for the pain and hopefully to help the swelling stay down. They iced her face at the clinic so the swelling is down and the fence marks do not show so badly. She is still groggy, but she thinks she can't walk with the e collar, so she is staying pretty calm so far. Poor baby.

Peace, hot weather and a wet mom

I love Peace. She is a sweet, sweet girl. But she is a clingy girl. It's hot and humid today and we don't have air. Peace insisted on sitting on me every chance she got. Up on my lap panting and drooling tongue sweat all over me. Holy moly, I never knew one dog could generate so much heat!

Today at the dogshow, she won her class, but that was all for us today. She would not stop and stand like a normal girl. The judge asked us for several down and backs, because she was either sniffing or she would stop and hold up one foot and lean. Goofy girl! We will see what Saturday brings.

Time for another shower, this one to get rid of Peace spit and Mom sweat. I really dont care for hot weather! Night all!

Our houseguest

We have a houseguest this week. For those of you who haven't met her, this is Wishes. Wish stayed with me for a while and I helped with placing her into her new home. Which lucky for me is only about 20 blocks away. So sometimes Wish gets to visit us. This time she is staying for a week. She is a very sweet dog, and she fits in with our family pretty well. Well, except for the fact that Peace will not leave her alone. I mean Peace is in her face non-stop. Wish hops up on the couch, Peace follows, she gets down, Peace follows. I am really hoping she tries to give a little lesson to Peace about getting in other dogs faces. Apparently Peace has not learned that at all! But so far no, Wish tolerates it, or walks away. So maybe I need to send Peace to someone who has a girl that will teach her before she gets too much older? Grace has not been a good teacher of manners.
Wish wants her family to know she is doing wonderfully! She has been having a great time playing tug with Magic, she thinks Grace and Siren are fun, but could someone please put Peace in another room?
